I've owned this hard drive bay for a month or two now and it works great. I can switch between data drives with ease. I've heard you can set these things up so that you can hot swap them but I haven't yet put the time into figuring out how it's done. Honestly I don't have to switch drives but every week or so but when I do it's SO easy! I just shut the machine down, pull the old drive and stuff the new one in. It's vastly easier than pulling the case out of my computer desk, opening the case and dismounting a drive the old fashioned way.
I'm going to get a second one of these for my primary drive so that I can setup a drive with the ubuntu operating system. That way if some nasty virus takes out my windows system I can pop-in ubuntu and I'm up and running again within minutes.

this product is not ment to be installed in a tool-less cases! I just tried million times to install it but still movable! I tried to but it above the DVD driver but it just looked wrong! not to mention the poor quality! it could easily break! it's not worth it!

I INSTALLED IN tool-less case WITH NO PROBLEM. I did not use the tool-less screw plates because of another review here just to be safe. My case allows the use of screws or the tool-less brackets. As I do not intend to take this out I used screws. I bought two and the other computer is just screws to hold drives in. It does not feel rock solid, but I am very gentle on my equipment and will try to follow up in six months as to how they are going. I swap hard drive a lot and was using a USB to SATA box. This is 1000 times better. It will make my work much easier.

This is a strong buy recommendation. As I said, be gentle with them and I think they will be fine.

My one complain is the blue drive light is to bright. I wish the access light was that bright and the power on blue was dimmer. I really would like to see the access light. It is a 75% to 25% ratio that is bad. You can see it but the blue light is more than needed. It is the access light I want to see.

UPDATE 1

April 23, 2011 still working as expected. I only remove and install drives when powered down. The hot-swap I think would apply only with a controller that supports it. I have a little experience with hot-swapping CF cards and controllers. Windows has write delays that might cause data loss if turning a drive off at the wrong time. Someone with more knowledge than me would need to address hot-swapping. I am sticking with my method of shutting down to swap drives. When removing CF cards I get an error from windows, even though I know no data was being written to the CF card at the time of removing it. If anyone has knowledge of hot-swapping please let me know. I will be search the web for more information.

UPDATE 2
After a lot of reading I found the HOT-SWAP answer. This unit as most all others as well are HOT-SWAPPABLE. I am HOT-SWAPPING mine with several changes that I am not sure yet it all are needed. Will spend time a add the setup information as soon as I get it to a minimum. As it is I created a dynamic disk, disabled write cashing, and found a neat utility to spin the drive down so no data loss could occur. Data loss is the issue when HOT-SWAPPING.
